Exhibition: Heroes from L. N. Tolstoy's novel 'War and Peace' at Borodino Field
About museum
The exhibition is located in the building of the former hotel of the Spaso-Borodinsky Monastery, where in 1867 L. N. Tolstoy, the author of the epic novel War and Peace, stayed. The hotel's historic interior was transformed into a museum space that tells the story of the author and the heroes of the Borodino chapters of the novel. In the first hall Tolstoy is presented as an artillery officer and an aspiring writer striving for a truthful depiction of events and phenomena. To achieve this, Tolstoy went to Borodino and for two days surveyed the area, took notes, and drew a plan of the battle. The second hall presents images of historical figures and fictional characters from the novel who took part in the Battle of Borodino. On all floors there are books, photographs, graphic sheets, reproductions of the writer's manuscripts, and finds from the battlefield. The multimedia program provides details about Tolstoy's trip to Borodino.
