Irbit State Motorcycle Museum
About museum
The Irbit Motorcycle Museum officially opened on June 25, 2004. The collection of motorcycle equipment from the Irbit Motorcycle Plant, assembled in the chief designer's department over the plant's 60-year history, formed the basis for its creation. The start of motorcycle production in Irbit is generally considered to be late 1941 — early 1942. It was at that time that the Moscow motorcycle factory was evacuated to the old Ural town. Its establishment was effected by Resolution No. SE-175 of the Evacuation Council under the Council of People's Commissars (SNK) of the USSR dated October 21, 1941. The first train arrived in Irbit from Moscow on November 17, 1941. A standard BMW R-71 motorcycle was placed on the roof of one of the wagons. From this period the Irbit motorcycle plant began to form its unique collection of motorcycles. The chief designer's department stored both foreign and in-house technical developments.
