Kholuy has been famous since the 13th century according to legends and chronicles, and in the 17th century was known as an icon-painting center. In 1959 the State Museum of Kholuy Art was established, which holds more than 5,000 exhibits. It houses icons, paintings, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, books, and embroidery. Lacquer miniature occupies an honored place for Kholuy. Visitors can enjoy the variety of works by Kholuy masters, as exhibitions and displays are constantly updated.
