Labytnangi City Local History Museum
About museum
1995 was a special year for the city of Labytnangi: on its 20th anniversary the City Local History Museum was opened. The main exhibits in the museum came from collections assembled by Gorskaya Irina Petrovna. In 1948 I. N. Kanev handed her the list of participants of the 1913 Pechora–Ob expedition. Since then the collection has been continuously expanded and now numbers more than 7,500 items, covering 22 thematic collections. The museum runs various museum-educational programs such as "Museum Kaleidoscope" and "Calendar of Museum Holidays." Over the past 5 years the number of children reached by the programs has increased from 75 to 424. Particularly popular are play sessions, guided tours and museum festivals dedicated to the traditions and rites of the Yamal peoples and to Orthodoxy. The museum was awarded the commemorative medal "65 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" by the Russian organizing committee "Victory" represented by the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev.
