Yuriy Andreevich Klimenko is the founder and first director of the ethnographic museum in the village of Novonikolaevka in the Leninsky District of Crimea. He was born in 1936. After finishing school and the Moscow Art School, Klimenko returned to his native village. There he held leadership positions: he was the chairman of the kolkhoz and the director of the House of Culture. His interest in the history and everyday life of his native land led to the creation of a unique collection of household and ethnographic items from the Crimean village.
When the collection no longer fit in the house and farm outbuildings, Klimenko decided to create a museum. In 1991 he was provided with the building of the former kolkhoz office. In a short time Klimenko and his assistants prepared the exhibition, and on May 19 the museum opened its doors to visitors. Yuriy Andreevich Klimenko continuously led the institution until his death in 2002.
