Gavrilovo-Posad Local History Museum
About museum
On April 14, 1960, the Executive Committee of the Gavrilovo-Posad District Council created a 15-person organizing committee to establish a local history museum. I. D. Konstantinov became the chairman. In March 1966 the museum opened with 2,300 exhibits. In 1971 it became a branch of the Ivanovo Regional Local History Museum. In 1989 it received new premises in a former merchant's mansion. In 1997 the museum became municipal. The collections include items of urban and peasant daily life, products of folk crafts and trades that were sold at fairs. The textile holdings, archaeological exhibits and children's artworks are also of great interest. The museum is not only a major commercial center at the crossroads of the main roads of central Russia, but also a place where important historical artifacts are preserved.
