Alexandrovsky Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
The museum was opened on October 7, 1964. In 1968 local Komsomol members decided to add another museum dedicated to the history of the district Komsomol organization. In 1979, at the initiative of the Institute of Archaeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which had worked in the territory of Alexandrovsky District for five years, the two museums were merged and a branch of the Stavropol State Museum of Local Lore named after G. K. Prave was established. The museum has accumulated archaeological, numismatic, ethnographic and documentary materials of cultural and historical value. Currently the museum holds about 13,000 items in its main collection. In addition, it houses a unique collection of rushnyky (embroidered ritual towels), trade equipment, tableware, ecclesiastical utensils, numismatic and archaeological items that allow one to imagine the life of ancestors. Today the museum is a legal entity and has the status of a state institution.
