Eco-Industrial Technopark "Old Demidov Plant"
About museum
From 1725 to 1917 the Old Demidov Plant operated as the Demidovs' active iron-smelting and ironworking works, later becoming the Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Plant. From 1957 to 1987 the enterprise was part of the production facilities of the Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Combine. In 1989 the Plant‑Museum of the History of Ferrous Metallurgy was established on its basis. In 2019 it changed its name to the Eco‑Industrial Technopark, reflecting the site's development as part of the Nizhny Tagil Museum‑Reserve "Gornozavodsky Ural." The layout of the water-powered works has been preserved on the site. Buildings and equipment from the 19th–20th centuries vividly demonstrate the development of metallurgical technologies and the improvement of the energy system, allowing one to trace all stages in the development of a typical Ural plant using different energy sources: water, steam, and electricity. The "Blast-Furnace Production," "Open-Hearth Production," "Power Facilities," and "Rolling Stock" exhibitions attract great interest from visitors. Since the Eco‑Industrial Technopark is an industrial site, visits are possible only as part of a guided tour. It is important to make a reservation in advance. Visitors aged over 14 may participate in the tour. The site is closed on Mondays.
