Far Eastern Art Museum
About museum
The Far Eastern Art Museum is the largest fine art museum in the Russian Far East. In 2021 it celebrated its 90th anniversary — it was founded in the early 20th century. It is not only the center of cultural life of Khabarovsk Krai but of the entire Russian Far East. Currently the museum's collection consists of more than 16,000 unique works of fine art. It features works from Old Russian, pre-revolutionary, Soviet, and contemporary periods, as well as the art of the peoples of the Amur region and the north of the Far East. The museum's permanent exhibitions include Russian icon painting of the 15th–20th centuries, notable not only for their high painting quality but also for their spiritual beauty. The Western European art halls are organized by schools of painting: Italian, German, Dutch, Flemish, and French. The museum is housed in a historic building of the former officers' assembly, which, according to A. P. Chekhov, he visited during his trip to Sakhalin.
