Yevgeny Fyodorovich Morokov

Yevgeny Fyodorovich Morokov – a journalist, founder of a local history museum, member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR, member of the Geographical Society, and a local historian of the Okhotsk coast. He was born in 1922 in Khabarovsk; in 1926 he moved with his parents to Okhotsk. In 1942, after finishing school, he went to the front. He served in the active army until 1944 and was wounded twice. After the second wound he was demobilized. For his combat merits, E. F. Morokov was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st class, and the Medal "For Courage".
After returning from the front, until 1957 he worked in the district in financial positions. From 1957 he worked for 20 years in the editorial office of the newspaper "Okhotsko-Evenskaya Pravda". Morokov's main research topic was the history of his native region. He wrote about the great seafarers who at various times visited Okhotsk. Morokov was a co-author of the collections "Cities of Khabarovsk Krai", "The Land of Okhotsk", "Sborn" and other literary publications. Morokov was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Okhotsk. Yevgeny Fyodorovich Morokov passed away on February 19, 1990, in his 68th year of life. After Morokov's death the museum was named after him.
