The city of Ishim has a rich history of artistic life throughout the 20th century, but it has not yet been studied, systematized, or covered in scholarly research. At the beginning of the century the city became famous for its icon-painting workshop. One of the artists, E. M. Chukardin, became the founder of the strongest art studio in the southern Tyumen region. The children's art studio of the House of Pioneers was awarded the title of 'People's' and nurtured many artists such as V. F. Shorokhov, A. V. Maksimov, A. G. Grafeev, L. Ptitsyna, Erosh, B. S. Konshin, N. M. Shutov, V. G. Manukhin and others. In 1972 an art school was opened, attended by former studio members. Over 35 years of the school's existence more than two hundred graduates became artists, architects, designers, teachers and fashion designers. Currently the city has more than twenty artists with higher art education and about thirty with secondary art education.
