Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Local Lore
About museum
The Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, one of the country's first regional museums (founded in 1837), combines Russian museum traditions with modern technologies. With nearly 300,000 items in its collections, the museum's holdings represent the largest comprehensive assemblage in the region. Here you can find rarities such as the Tyapinsky Gospel (1570), a collection of objects from Barents' 1598 wintering, and items that belonged to prominent members of royal families and statesmen. Exhibitions and displays are located in the historic city center, in the unique Arkhangelsk Gostiny Dvory complex. It is a monument of 17th-century civil architecture that has survived to the present day. In the past it was a site of international trade, and in 1981 the building was converted into a museum and became a landmark of Arkhangelsk.
