Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Local History
About museum
Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Local History — one of the country's first regional museums (founded in 1837), combines Russian museum traditions with modern technologies. With nearly 300,000 items in its holdings, the museum's collections constitute the largest comprehensive assemblage of the region. Rare treasures can be found here, such as the Tyapinsky Gospel (1570), a collection of objects from Barents' 1598 wintering, and belongings of prominent royal figures and statesmen. Exhibitions and displays are located in the historic city center, in the unique 'Arkhangelsk Gostiny Dvory' complex. This is a monument of 17th-century civil architecture that has survived to the present day. In the past it hosted international trade, and in 1981 the building was converted into a museum and became a landmark of Arkhangelsk.
