The Kirov Regional Museum of Local Lore hosted the All‑Russian scientific and practical conference 'Vyatka. Museum. Alabin'.
The forum is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the museum's founder, Pyotr Alabin, and the 650th anniversary of Khlynov — Vyatka — Kirov.
Historians, scholars, local historians and art historians from 14 regions of Russia took part in the conference: the Moscow, Orenburg, Saratov, Arkhangelsk, Samara, Kurgan, Nizhny Novgorod and Chelyabinsk oblasts, as well as the republics of Mari El, Bashkortostan, Komi, Chuvashia and Udmurtia.
At various sections of the forum, participants discussed issues of preserving and popularizing museum collections, the role of local history research in regional development, and the importance of museums in preserving spiritual and moral heritage and in patriotic education. Pyotr Alabin devoted his life to these areas, making a huge contribution to the advancement of historical scholarship, literature and international relations.
It should be recalled that on September 6 a ceremonial cancellation of a postage stamp dedicated to Pyotr Alabin took place simultaneously in five cities — Samara, Kirov, Podolsk, Sevastopol and Sofia (Bulgaria).
"In all the cities where he lived and worked, Pyotr Vladimirovich left a fond memory and a great legacy that continues to serve the public to this day," said Kirov Oblast Governor Alexander Sokolov.
We add that, following the 'Vyatka. Museum. Alabin' conference, a collection of papers will be published.
