V.D. Polenov Museum-Reserve. The Half-Timbered Barn
About museum
In 1895 a barn made of "Tarusa marble" was built in the half-timbered complex. On the gable end it housed storage for garden tools, and on the front there was the carpentry workshop of Ivan Mikhailovich Nikishin, who, following Polenov's drawings, built boats for the Polenov flotilla. The eastern part was a granary where grain for the horses was stored. The barn was called "Uncle Ivan's barn." In the 1980s and early 1990s a full cycle of restoration and reconstruction work was carried out there. Today the half-timbered barn contains an exhibition hall presenting items from the museum's collections that reflect significant events in the lives and work of members of the Polenov family and the life of the estate.
