On June 3, the ceremonial opening of the exhibition "Alexander Vertinsky. Prototype of a Museum" took place in the central building of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V.I. Dahl. The exposition highlights important stages of the life of this unique artist: the beginning of his creative path, his first performances, his first roles in silent films, the years of emigration, tours across Europe and America, life in China, and his return to the USSR. The project, created in collaboration with Anastasia Vertinskaya, is based on materials from the extensive collection of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V.I. Dahl. The collection includes about two thousand museum items, most of which were donated to the museum by the artist's family. Among them are manuscripts, photographs, records and sheet music, as well as paintings and sculptural works, furniture, and personal belongings.

Alexander Vertinsky is a connecting thread between the Silver Age and the twentieth century, between the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. His work reflects the complexity and multifaceted nature of Russian culture, its ability to overcome hardships and preserve its uniqueness. "In Alexander Vertinsky's art, in his fate, what seemed incompatible was brought together. It seems to us that after the 1917 revolution everything died, something new was born, then again died, then again something new was born. It turned out that nonetheless these threads of culture connect us and connect our understanding of our own lives in this history," noted the President's Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy. In his view, the opened exhibition, dedicated to "a very great artist and a very great poet of the Silver Age," allows us today, "standing on tiptoe," to touch that era and understand it a little better.

The exhibition naturally carries the subtitle "Prototype of a Museum": the result of the extensive research work carried out by the staff of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature, with the assistance of Anastasia Alexandrovna Vertinskaya, should be the creation of a permanent exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Alexander Vertinsky. Dmitry Petrovich expressed the hope that the long-standing efforts of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Olga Borisovna Lyubimova will lead to the desired result and that a museum dedicated to the artist will appear in Moscow on the basis of the GMIRLI department named after V.I. Dahl on Prospekt Mira.

Elena Kharlamova, Director of the Department of Museums and External Relations of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, spoke about the steps being taken to create a museum center and conveyed official congratulations from the Minister of Culture. Sharing her impressions of the exhibition, she noted the interactive part of the exposition "Alexander Vertinsky. Prototype of a Museum," which invites visitors to reflect on the future of this unique museum dedicated to the Russian Silver Age.

The exhibition "Alexander Vertinsky. Prototype of a Museum" is on display in the Central building of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V.I. Dahl (Zubovsky Boulevard, 15) until September 29.
