In 2025 the Union of State Literary and Memorial Museums of the Penza Region celebrates an anniversary. The first literary association in Russia is turning fifty!

During its 50 years the institution has achieved much thanks to the staff who worked in the early days, those who carried the baton in the middle years, and those who continue its proud traditions today. We continue to tell about the most significant achievements in the history of the Literary Association, notable events, victories, and interesting guests in our new series 'Chronicles of the Union: From the Beginning to Our Days'.

Today we will talk about the most significant events that occurred in the Union of Literary and Memorial Museums of the Penza Region in 1976.

At the A.N. Radishchev Museum the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was restored. The Spaso-Preobrazhenskaya (Transfiguration) Church was built on the site of an old wooden one with funds from Grigory Afanasyevich Abyazov, A.N. Radishchev's great-grandfather, and was consecrated in September 1736.

The Union also acted as one of the organizers of a scholarly conference devoted to the works of A.N. Radishchev, M.Yu. Lermontov, and V.G. Belinsky, which took place in 1976.

On July 4, 1976, the 5th Lermontov Poetry Festival in 'Tarkhany' was held at a high level. At that time the museum-reserve was part of the Union.
