On March 22, the second part of the exhibition "Church Art of the Northern Prikamye" opened at the Museum of the History of Faith. It is dedicated to the history of church decorative and applied arts (textiles, jewelry, gold embroidery).
Spring rays of the sun illuminated the second floor, which had completely changed after 25 years. The exhibition completed the full cycle of the museum's internal transformation. Everyone who saw how the museum had changed that day could not contain their emotions. Even while ascending the stairs to the second floor, one could hear: "How beautiful!"; "Wonderful!"; "Incredible and precious."
The land of Cherdyn, being the first territory where Orthodox faith was established in the Urals and Siberia, gave an impulse to the spread of Christian teaching in the Prikamye. This process was accompanied by the merging of established forms of church art with local culture, refracting in the worldview of local tribes, manifesting in new themes of church tradition, color schemes, and plastic forms, while preserving canonicity. The museum preserves unique items that can tell about the events and traditions that existed on Cherdyn land from the mid-4th century to the present day.
The inclusion of icons, jewelry, liturgical books, gold-embroidered items, as well as objects from the collection of wooden sculpture and bronze works, painting and porcelain in the exhibition allows museum visitors to become acquainted with items previously unknown to the general public. A comprehensive approach to forming the exhibition creates a cohesive impression of all types of church art of Great Perm of Cherdyn.
Church Art of the Northern Prikamye is a vast, astonishing world of preserved unique objects in which the history of the spiritual life of our ancestors is recorded. This history preserves the knowledge of faith, the experience of events, and also a spiritual message for descendants — for us. What is in that message? Everyone will hear, see, and feel something personal, special, and intimate.
