All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts
About museum
The All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts is one of the largest in Russia. It currently houses more than 120,000 exhibits, including objects made of wood, stone and metal. Special attention should be paid to the porcelain and glass collection, which comprises over 12,000 items. The museum displays works by such well-known artists as Alexey Vorobyevsky, Ivan Riznich and Vladimir Gorodetsky. In addition, the museum features pieces from the 19th-century Imperial Porcelain Factory and the Gardner factory in Verbilki, tableware services that belonged to the imperial family, as well as unique silver and gold items. One source of the collection was the private collection of art historian and artist Nikolai Sobolev. Collections from the Research Institute of Applied Arts, the Kuskovo estate and the State Historical Museum also contributed to the collection. All items are housed in a late 18th–early 20th-century Classical-style architectural monument known as the Osterman House.
