Volzhsky Local History Museum
About museum
On July 15, 1980 the Volzhsk City Council of People's Deputies decided to open a local history museum, which on October 2, 1981, by order of the Minister of Culture, became a branch of the Republican National Local History Museum. The museum's first director was Alexandra Stepanovna Baramygina. On May 27, 1983 the museum received its first visitors. In 1997 it became an independent entity — the municipal institution "Volzhsky Local History Museum". In 2008 the museum moved to an elegant building in the 'Stalinist Empire' style, included in the list of architectural monuments of regional significance. In 2011 the museum gained budgetary status. Today it has more than 9,000 storage units, the majority of which are original documents and photographs reflecting the history of the city and its residents.
