Volgograd Planetarium
About museum
Volgograd Planetarium — a very notable and iconic place for the city. Half a century ago it was the third in the country in terms of technical equipment.
The planetarium has a Star Hall for 450 spectators, equipped with a domed screen and a large 'Planetarium' apparatus. The apparatus houses 99 projectors, with which it is possible to simultaneously see 6,000 stars and planets. The apparatus possesses remarkable technical capabilities.
Since 2019 the Volgograd Planetarium has also become digital — thanks to a full-dome system that projects films across the entire dome of the building with a 360-degree view. The site includes its own astronomical observatory, where anyone can conduct both daytime and evening observations with a 12-inch refractor telescope made by Carl Zeiss, with a focal length of 5 m and 800x magnification.
The planetarium hosts hour-long educational science programs daily. Each includes an engaging tour, demonstrations of all exhibits, and a Foucault pendulum experiment. The lectures cover a variety of topics and are aimed at both adults and children.
