Verkhopen Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
On October 17, 1987, a decision was made to establish the Verkhopen Historical and Local Lore Museum. It was based on the museum of the Verkhopen secondary school, created by A.D. Tkachyov and M.S. Prokhorov in 1961. A.K. Erpeleva, O.A. Atanova, and V.A. Atanov were the founders and driving forces behind the museum's establishment. In 1989, 29 works by the self-taught artist M.S. Kramsky were donated to the museum. In 2005, the Verkhopen museum was transformed into a branch of the Ivnyansky Historical and Local Lore Museum and underwent a major renovation. On March 27, 2010, the museum resumed its activities. Today it preserves more than 6,000 items in its collections, attracts over 10,000 visitors annually, and also holds more than 150 museum lessons and lectures as well as two scientific-practical conferences.
