Ust-Nera Local History Museum
About museum
In 1973, representatives of the Oymyakon district party committee proposed the idea of establishing a Local History Museum, which was originally intended for visits by communists attending seminars in Ust-Nera. Residents of Oymyakon helped form the first exhibits, and the first exhibit was a loon donated as a gift to the head of the district education office (RONO), V. I. Azovtsev. The museum received a samovar, a gun, photographs of the first Komsomol members, as well as documents from the archives of Yakutsk and Magadan. Veterans sent old photographs and memoirs. With the help of residents and enterprises that sent free exhibits to the museum, in 1974 the museum was opened for its first tour.
