Toropets Local History Museum
About museum
In 1924 the Toropets Local History Museum was opened; since 1962 it has been housed in the building of the 18th-century Epiphany Church. In 2006 a new exhibition was created there, arranged across four halls. The first presents materials on the peasant life of Toropets Uyezd, the second covers the history of the town of Toropets from the 16th to the 20th centuries, and the third is the exhibition 'The Forties — Fateful...', dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. Here visitors can see weapons, household items from the wartime years, photographs, documents, as well as a peasant hut housing a radio station, military accoutrements and other exhibits representing the headquarters of the partisan movement that operated in the Toropetsky District. The exhibition hall hosts displays from the collections of the Tver State United Museum and other cultural institutions.
