About museum
The Tikhvin Historical-Memorial and Architectural-Art Museum is one of the oldest museums in the Leningrad Region. It was established in 1913 with the assistance of the Tikhvin branch of the Novgorod Society of Antiquaries under the direction of the prominent local historian I. P. Mordvinov. In 1941, during the battles for Tikhvin, most of the museum's collections were lost. From 1942 it moved into the Rimsky-Korsakov house. In 1948, students of School No. 1 under the guidance of history teacher I. P. Krupeichenko created a school museum, which was donated to the town in 1966. Today the museum holds more than 32,000 museum items across various collections. It hosts many events, campaigns, and educational programs, including Christmas and Easter festivals, children's contests, etc. It is located on the grounds of the Tikhvin Bogoroditsky Assumption Men's Monastery.
