\r\nThe Taganrog Art Museum was founded in 1898 under the direction of the writer A. P. Chekhov. Over decades the museum has assembled about seven thousand works of Russian painting, graphics, sculpture and decorative-applied arts, including paintings by A. P. Antropov, F. Rokotov, P. Fedotov, I. Aivazovsky, I. Repin, V. Surikov, V. Vereshchagin, I. Levitan, V. Serov, P. Konchalovsky; graphic sheets by A. Zubov, P. Sokolov, V. Borisov-Musatov; sculptures by P. Klodt, I. Martos, E. Lansere, M. Antokolsky. The mansion that houses the museum is an architectural monument of the last third of the 19th century. Through the content and quality of its collection the museum participates in various exhibitions and projects across Russia and abroad. Inside the museum visitors are greeted by an exquisite sculptural courtyard with magnificent works of 19th-century Italian marble sculpture. Various events for art education and aesthetic development are held here.
