Pilgrims' Hostel
About museum
The present building was constructed in 1809–1811, and in 1825 it housed monastery shops and a hotel for pilgrims — the Pilgrims' Hostel. Today it features exhibitions such as “History of the Borisoglebsky Monastery” with items from the 12th–18th centuries, a scale reconstruction of the 12th-century Borisoglebsky Cathedral, and a section about the monastery’s tragic fate during the Soviet era. Also on display are “The Icon: A Window into the Heavenly World” and “Genius of Taste,” which provides information about the life and work of Nikolai Alexandrovich Lvov. Visitors can attend a theatrical tour and learn about his love life and the fate of his descendants. In addition, there is an exhibition called “The City You Will Not See,” devoted to Torzhok at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, with panoramas of the city and its inhabitants.
