Museum object 'Powder Magazine'
About museum
Powder Magazine is a unique monument of military-engineering art from the time of Catherine the Great, located in the very center of the Azov Fortress. Originally there was a wooden building here, built in 1799, but in 1801 it was rebuilt in red brick. To protect against moisture, the magazine's walls were made double, and stone partitions were installed at the window level. In 1810 the building ceased to be used for its original purpose, and it was restored in the 1950s. In 1967 a museum was opened here, and in 2010 the magazine was returned to its original appearance. Here you can see drawings of the Azov Fortress's military structures, various weapons, authentic antique cannons, and the diorama 'Storming of Azov on July 18, 1696' by the artist Arseny Chernyshov. More than 80,000 people visit the magazine each year.
