Podolsk Local History Museum
About museum
The Podolsk Local History Museum was opened in 1971 thanks to the efforts of community enthusiasts. In the 1990s the museum received unique archaeological finds of items from the 9th–12th centuries, discovered during excavations led by M. I. Gonyanoy. Today the museum holds the best archaeological collection in the Moscow Region. Podolsk artists donated their paintings to the museum. In 2011, for the 230th anniversary of Podolsk, the museum was given a restored building dating from the first quarter of the 19th century. The interior finishes were preserved, and the exhibition was named "Podolsk Meridian." The museum has seven halls, each dedicated to a particular historical period of Podolsk. They display not only local history items but also objects of historical and cultural significance. Special attention is paid to the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.
