Novozybkov Local History Museum
About museum
On November 13, 1923, a Museum of National Economy was established in the town of Novozybkov; in 1928 it was transformed into a State Local History Museum. The museum was headed by Yegor Petrovich Medvedev — a historian and expert on the native region. During World War II the museum building was destroyed and the materials were lost. In 1946 the museum was restored, and in 1953 it moved into a handsome mansion. In the 1950s work began to collect materials for an exhibition that opened in 1967. Today the museum holds more than 50,000 exhibits, many of which were contributed by residents of the town and district. From 1974 to 2012 the museum was headed by Galina Ivanovna Tsyganok. She is grateful to the former leaders of the town and district for their help and kind attitude toward the museum in its difficult time.
