Museum-Reserve 'Kuznetsk Fortress'
About museum
Museum-Reserve 'Kuznetsk Fortress' is the calling card of the city of Novokuznetsk, founded in 1991. It is located on Voznesenskaya Hill, encompassing numerous archaeological, historical and natural monuments, as well as an actual waterfall. The Kuznetsk Fortress was built in 1800–1820 and is the only surviving stone-and-earth military-engineering structure beyond the Urals. In the 1870s a prison was established here, which was burned down in 1919. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries restoration work was carried out on the site. Today the museum-reserve presents exhibitions, provides Wi‑Fi and the interactive multimedia guide Artefact. Guided tours, exhibitions, literary meetings, master classes and other events are held here.
