Museum Center 'Peace Square'
About museum
One of the largest places in Siberia dedicated to contemporary art is a museum founded in 1987 as a branch of the Central Lenin Museum. In the early 1990s it was reoriented towards contemporary art practices and managed to assemble a respectable collection. It hosted the first biennials in Russia and the 'Museum Night'. The museum's architect was Areg Demirkhanov. The building of the Stolby Nature Reserve echoes the museum's silhouette, and inside it spreads a labyrinth of varied halls and levels. Works by contemporary artists from Russia and other countries, including Siberian artists, are constantly being acquired. Exhibitions, lectures and discussions with well-known artists and scholars are held here. It is an excellent place to study art history and discover new talents.
