About museum
The Saraktash Local History Museum was opened on April 21, 1982, and was based on the local history museum of Spasskaya Secondary School, which had existed since September 10, 1963. From January 1, 1984, the museum became an independent cultural and educational institution. On March 28, 2008, the Saraktash Historical and Local History Museum was named after M. M. Chumakov. The museum's exhibitions include a Nature Hall, a Hall of Glory, the Peasant's Izba exhibition, and an exhibition on the history of the formation and development of the Saraktash District. In 2022 the museum will celebrate its 40th anniversary and will present more than 25 exhibitions with over 6,000 exhibits. Today the museum's collection consists of more than 8,000 items in the main collection, including rare collections of coins and medals and unique artifacts from the Scythian-Sarmatian period. The museum actively develops its educational potential and attracts various categories of visitors, with attendance exceeding 11,000 people per year.
