Museum of the County Town
About museum
The museum has five halls, each of which represents a unique world. In the first hall you can see ancient Valdai artifacts, materials on the history of the Iversky Monastery, Valdai's urban planning of the 18th century, the Moscow–St. Petersburg road and Valdai's connection to it, journeys and travelers, coaching inns and coachmen, as well as the railway and the changes it brought. In the second hall you can see the craftsmen who shaped the face of the town — masons, carpenters, bricklayers and others. The third hall presents state institutions and public organizations, as well as materials from the zemstvo and the volunteer fire society, the theatre and the pharmacy, and the town's schools. The fourth hall is devoted to Valdai families, and the fifth to Valdai's summer residents: the writer V. S. Solovyov; the leading publicist of the newspaper Novoye Vremya, M. O. Menshikov; Professor of Political Economy P. I. Georgievsky; the spiritual writer S. A. Nilus; the artist, archaeologist and philosopher N. K. Roerich; General V. A. Kosagovsky; and others.
