About museum
The Museum of the Writer I. S. Shmelev is located in the Professor's Corner of Alushta. It was opened on September 21, 1993, and is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the writer's birth. The building was constructed in the early 19th century and once belonged to the chemist V. N. Beketov. Here visitors can learn about I. S. Shmelev's life and work in pre-revolutionary Moscow, during the Civil War in Alushta, and in emigration in France. The Crimean International Shmelev Readings and the Shmelev Assemblies are held here, attracting participants from the fields of science, education, and culture from various countries. The museum displays furniture, period objects, photographs, documents, letters from the writer's archive, editions from his personal library, icons, and paintings. The museum is included in pilgrimage tours of Crimea and actively participates in educational outreach through the 'Museum — School' program.
