Museum of Folk Crafts and Trades of Primorye
About museum
For many years folk trades and crafts have been an integral part of the culture of the Russian North, and in particular of Primorye. Fishing and fur-hunting trades, kelp harvesting, salt production, forest trades, collection of resin and tar making, hunting — all of these were the basis of life for the inhabitants of the White Sea shores. Men's and women's crafts also developed and were perfected in this area — cooperage, pottery, carpentry, shoemaking, weaving, knitting, braiding, embroidery, etc. The Municipal Budgetary Institution "Museum of Folk Crafts and Trades of Primorye" studies and preserves the traditional trades and crafts of the district, as well as researching the customs and rituals associated with them. During expeditions tools, household items, unique photographs, documents and recollections are collected to replenish the museum's collections. All this helps preserve traditions of generational continuity and continue the study of Primorye's culture.
