World of Stone Museum
About museum
The World of Stone Museum opened in 2010 and was founded on the mineralogical collection of Sergey Iosifovich Berger. The exhibition consists of more than 2,000 specimens of minerals, rocks, and fossils from various countries around the world. Special attention is given to the riches of the Altai Krai. It showcases gemstones, ornamental and lapidary stones, rare collectible specimens, and fossilized remains of ancient animals and plants. The museum highlights the history of the Altai Krai and its capital. Visitors can tour the former Barnaul silver-smelting plant and take part in walking and bus excursions. From May to October the museum becomes a tourist center offering geological and educational tours of the Altai. By visiting the famous Kolyvan stone-cutting factory, the mining and lapidary museums, industrial sites, and quarries, everyone can find interesting specimens at ore and gem deposits.
