On September 20, 2018, in Blagoveshchensk, the only memorial museum-workshop building in the Russian Far East dedicated to the famous People's Artist of Russia, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts and honorary citizen of Blagoveshchensk Alexander Yevgenyevich Tikhomirov — who created a new direction in painting called okonopis (window painting) — was opened. The 46.8 sq. meter building contains 6,488 items, which include rare documents, painted canvases, the renowned okonopis, pencil drawings, personal belongings, photographs, a library, paintings by A. E. Tikhomirov's friends — People's Artists of Russia, antique furniture, and awards. This place emphasizes the modesty of the celebrated master and serves as a center of culture and art for the Amur Region, instilling patriotic feelings and pride in the cultural heritage of the native land, and also aids the spiritual and moral development of the younger generation.
