Museum of Flax and Birch Bark
About museum
In the city of Kostroma, on Tereshkova Street, there is an unusual museum founded in 2005 by native of the city Natalya Pavlovna Zabavina. It attracts many visitors because of its uniqueness: here flax and birch bark are combined into a single whole. Walking along the paths of the fairy-tale terem, one can enjoy beautiful green lawns, bright flowerbeds, whimsically curved footbridges and a well. In the flax hall visitors can see the process of turning flax straw into rubakhas (traditional Russian shirts), and in the birch-bark hall — characters from Russian fairy tales made of birch bark. The exhibitions also include samples of factory-produced linen goods from both the past and the present.
