N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Memorial Apartment Museum
About museum
The N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Memorial Apartment Museum is the only composer's museum in St. Petersburg. It is located at 28 Zagorodny Prospect, where Rimsky-Korsakov lived for the last 15 years of his life. Eleven of the composer's fifteen operas were created here. After the death of the composer and his wife, the apartment became communal, but the items and furniture were carefully preserved by the composer's descendants. In 1970 a memorial museum was opened here. It consists of four rooms: the study, the living room, the dining room and the entry hall. There is also an exhibition hall and a 50-seat concert hall. In Rimsky-Korsakov's study are his desk, armchair, a bureau made by Tikhvin craftsmen, commemorative addresses and gifts. There is a piano in the living room, and portraits of ancestors on the dining room walls. The dining table displays tableware and souvenirs. The museum recreates the atmosphere of creative life and for many years has been a center of St. Petersburg's cultural life.
