Museum of Merchants and Social Estates
About museum
The Museum of Merchants and Social Estates, opened on February 5, 2019, is part of the Yelets City Local History Museum. It is housed in a three-story 19th-century building that belonged to the merchant A. N. Zausaylov. The complex is part of an estate ensemble consisting of adjacent carriage sheds, arches and the Botanical Garden. The house preserves old staircases, parquet floors, stucco on the ceilings, carved doors and decorative stove tiles. After the October Revolution of 1917 the building underwent changes, and from 1931 it housed a museum. The museum's exhibition spans more than a century and is of great historical value. The museum's collection includes a variety of items of decorative and applied art, porcelain, paintings and documents that allow one to trace the history and culture of the city in past centuries.
