Museum of the Krasnogvardeysky Fortified District
About museum
The year 2005 was special for the Gatchina District: in that year the museum exhibition dedicated to the events of 1941–1944 was opened. It displays authentic items that testify to military glory and also tell the truth about the events of 1941. At that time, on the territory of the Krasnogvardeysky Fortified District, fierce resistance was mounted by militiamen, border guard cadets, and soldiers of the Red Army who defended Leningrad from the Nazi invaders. The exhibition includes a separate section devoted to the January battles of 1944, when Gatchina was liberated and Leningrad was completely freed from the siege. In 2010 the museum became part of the municipal Cultural and Exhibition Center 'Dachnaya Stolitsa', and in 2021 it was supplemented with items from I. A. Kirgetov and M. Ya. Mironov — Heroes of the Soviet Union who received that title for their participation in the January 1944 battles to liberate Gatchina. A tour of the museum will help visitors learn about little-known pages of the nation's military history.
