Volgodonsk District Local History Museum

\r\nIn 1998, the Volgodonsk District Local History Museum was opened; in 2008 it moved to a separate building constructed in 1908 by the mother of merchant Matvey Ivanovich Fandeev. The museum's main tasks are collecting, preserving and recreating antiquities, household items and the culture of the peoples living in the district. The museum's exhibitions include 'Flora and Fauna of the Volgodonsk District', 'Hall', 'Cold Room', 'Kitchen', 'Bedroom', 'Ancient Antiquities', and 'We Are from the USSR'. In the museum's yard there is a 1:50 scale model of a Cossack settlement, as well as a boat, fishing nets, a clay oven (mazanka) and the diesel engine of a 1902 mill. The museum holds 1,636 collection items and 1,029 units in its scientific and auxiliary collection.
