About museum
The Large Salbyk kurgan, designated a federal monument, is one of the most majestic examples of cultural heritage in Siberia. In 2007, the open-air museum "Ancient Kurgans of the Salbyk Steppe" was established to preserve and promote this monument. It was an outstanding sacred, architectural and astronomical site of the 5th–4th centuries BCE and represents the tomb of the leader of nomadic tribes. Excavations of the Large Salbyk kurgan were carried out in 1954 under the direction of Sergey Vladimirovich Kiselev and lasted three years.
