About museum
In 1985 the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of Altai at Altai State University was established at the initiative of the head of the Archaeology Laboratory, Yuri Fyodorovich Kiryushin, who received the support of Altai State University's first rector, Vasily Ivanovich Neverov. Prior to that, lecturers, staff and students of the Faculty of History carried out a decade of expeditionary work, resulting in collections on the history of Altai from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Henrikas Leono Nekhvedavichus was appointed director of the museum, after which a permanent exhibition was organized. The museum's collections are used for the university's teaching and research purposes, as well as for writing dissertations at various levels. In addition, the museum attracts the attention of scholars from different cities of Russia and other countries.
