Memorial Museum of Military and Labor Feat (1941–1945)
About museum
On May 6, 1995, the Memorial Museum of Military and Labor Feat was opened to mark the 50th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany. It became an important part of the memorial complex "Victory Square" in the city of Saransk. The museum building is shaped like a map of Mordovia with a small tower in the center, presented in the form of a kokoshnik (traditional Russian headdress). The museum has six halls displaying documents, photographs, awards, front-line soldiers' belongings, materials about home-front workers, and information about participants in post-war conflicts. The museum's collections contain more than 53,000 storage units, including weapons, paintings, and sculptures. In addition, military equipment is exhibited at the museum. On June 5, 2001, a branch of the museum dedicated to A. I. Polezhaev was opened in wooden house No. 51 on Saranskaya Street. The museum maintains contact with relatives of the deceased and veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and also accepts documents from family archives.
