Memorial Museum 'Raznochinny Petersburg'
About museum
The 'Raznochinny Petersburg' Museum is dedicated to the history of non-parade Petersburg, where in pre-revolutionary Russia lived raznochintsy — people of low social status who did not belong to the categories of nobility or merchants. These included minor clerks, retired soldiers, workers, students and others. The museum has existed since 1924, when after the death of V. I. Lenin a 'corner of Ilyich' was created, and in 1938 an apartment-museum of V. I. Ulyanov was opened on that basis. In 1992, by order of the Mayor of Saint Petersburg, the museum was preserved as a historical-memorial site, and in 2003 it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Saint Petersburg Committee for Culture. In 2006, after the opening of a new exhibition 'Around the Semenovsky Platz', the museum received its current name. It offers a unique opportunity to study the history of the democratic movement in Russia in the late 19th century.
