About museum
On March 18, 1973, the A. P. Gaidar Memorial Museum was opened. It is located in the house where the writer was born, and since 1971 it has been a historical monument. The initiator and organizer of the museum's creation was the Lgov local historian S. V. Lagutich, who became its first director. The exhibition tells the story not of a single family, but of an entire era. It presents personal belongings and books of the Golikovs, family photographs, and household items from the late 19th to early 20th century. In 1987 a new building with a large exhibition hall and a cinema hall was added to the museum. The museum's collections number more than 6,000 items, and it is visited by about 7,000 people annually. Here one can see and feel the atmosphere of the era in which A. P. Gaidar and his family lived.
