A. S. Pushkin Memorial Apartment on the Arbat
About museum
In one of the oldest buildings on the Arbat, built after the 1812 fire, where Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin lived for six months, there is now a memorial apartment. The house was rebuilt in 1815 into a two-story mansion with a triangular pediment and rusticated first-floor walls. Alexander Sergeyevich rented it on the eve of his wedding and after the wedding brought his young wife there. However, three months later they moved to Tsarskoye Selo. In 1986 a memorial museum was opened in the house, where one can see many 19th-century household items, original editions and gifts to the poet. On the second floor the interior of the apartment where the Pushkins lived for three months has been reconstructed. Thus, the poet's memorial museum gives visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of that time.
