Kizlyar Historical and Local Lore Museum named after P.I. Bagration
About museum
The P. I. Bagration Museum in Kizlyar offers a journey into the region's past. The exhibition displays finds that testify to the development of culture and everyday life in the Tersk region from ancient times. Visitors can also learn about the ancestors of the Nogais, Cossacks, Kizlyar Armenians and other peoples who lived in the area. The focus is on Pyotr I. Bagration, a hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, who was born in Kizlyar. The museum also tells about famous writers who visited Kizlyar: M. Y. Lermontov, L. N. Tolstoy, A. Dumas. The exhibition includes documents, weapons from the 18th–19th centuries, cannonball fragments and soil from Bagration's burial site, the bass tuba of the Akhtyrsky Regiment and much more. The museum covers events of the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War, as well as more recent decades. The museum holds more than 16,500 exhibits. It is a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi and was opened in 1972.
