Memorial "In Honor of the Heroes of the Battle of Kursk"

The "In Honor of the Heroes of the Battle of Kursk" memorial, a branch of the Belgorod State Historical and Local Lore Museum, is located 7 km north of the settlement of Yakovlevo, at the 624th kilometer of the Moscow–Simferopol highway. The complex includes: a T-34 tank; a stylobate with a 44-meter stele and two 122-mm artillery guns; the Hall of Military Glory; an obelisk bearing the names of the fronts and armies that fought on the southern face of the Kursk salient; a model of a combat aircraft; firing positions preserved from the Great Patriotic War; the grave of artillerymen; a 76-mm ZIS-3 gun; the Chapel of St. George the Victorious; and the Eternal Flame. The Hall of Military Glory's exhibition presents items narrating the events of the Great Patriotic War in the Belgorod region: weapon samples, personal belongings, documents, photographs of participants in the hostilities, and military commanders — front commanders I. S. Konev, N. F. Vatutin, and Marshal G. K. Zhukov. The complex is equipped with audio accompaniment. The music was written by G. V. Sviridov, laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes and People's Artist of the USSR. Architect: A. T. Bozhko; artists: A. I. Grebenyuk, V. I. Kazak, V. D. Leus. The memorial was opened in 1973. It is a monument of federal significance.
